Firefly for Palestinians
A new friendship
Prior to the recent ceasefire, and like many other charities, we were forced to halt our work running a trauma clinic in Gaza. Our colleagues, their families, and the children we once supported are now scattered. They remain constantly in our hearts and thoughts. Although unable to operate in Gaza at present, at Firefly we felt compelled to act. We are determined to help the children we can reach. The situation is deeply complex and polarising, but when it comes to children and providing hope for a brighter future, it really is straightforward.
Therefore, we are delighted to share news of Firefly International’s new friendship with Afhad Al Zaytoun an inspiring initiative founded in Cairo. Our director Jane, and projects director Maria, visited Cairo in November to meet the project’s founders and find out more about their work. This volunteer-driven organisation supports traumatised child refugees from Gaza through a holistic approach, including art therapy, sports, singing, and lessons rooted in the Palestinian curriculum. Our partners provide essential services not otherwise available to the refugee children in Cairo. Beyond education, Afhad Al Zaytoun fosters emotional recovery and growth, helping children heal from the devastating impacts of war. As we get up and running we look forward to updating you on the progress and growth of this new friendship and the children we support together.
