We are delighted to announce that the winner of the 2025 Ellie Maxwell Award is Fight Malnutrition, led by University of Edinburgh MSc student Saadatu Sulaiman.
Fight Malnutrition is a grassroots initiative tackling child malnutrition in Kano State, Nigeria. Through house-to-house screening, life-saving treatment, micronutrient supplementation, and caregiver education, the project has already improved the health of over 500 children. With plans to expand to new communities, the team aims to reach an additional 300 children and their caregivers this year.
The 2025 judging panel – Liz Sams (Foundation Scotland), Saloni More (University of Edinburgh medical student and 2022 Award winner), and Sebastian Chambers (former Chair of Firefly International) – praised Fight Malnutrition for its clear goals, measurable impact, and high potential to scale.
The £1,000 seed funding, mentoring, and networking opportunities offered through the Award will help Saadatu and her team to expand their work, build community resilience, and create sustainable solutions to end child malnutrition.
Congratulations to Saadatu and the entire Fight Malnutrition team for their inspiring work building healthier futures for children!
