Firefly International partners with a local, Gaza-based NGO and two UK-based NGOs, to run a trauma clinic for children in Gaza. We are a non-political organisation and never condone violence. We are horrified by the violence recently inflicted by Palestinian extremists on Israeli citizens. We are equally horrified by the bombardment of Gaza and the terrible suffering it is causing. We are receiving regular updates from the project manager of our clinic in Gaza, which is of course closed for the foreseeable future. He has been sending what’s app messages with tips and advice for the families whose children his team have been treating. We hope and pray fervently for his safety and that of his family, his colleagues in the clinic and their families, the children we have been treating and all the children in the enclave. Children don’t start wars.
We echo the UN World Food Programme’s plea: “As the conflict intensifies, civilians, including vulnerable children and families, face mounting challenges in accessing essential food supplies. WFP urges safe and unimpeded humanitarian access to affected areas, calling on all parties to uphold the principles of humanitarian law.”
