At the end of this year, Diana McMicking is going to step down as our director and then continue as a trustee. Diana has – and indeed is – making an incredible contribution to Firefly International since she became director three years ago. Largely working on a voluntary basis, she has improved every aspect of our charity. Diana has transformed both how we work with the teams on the ground and how we raise the money to support them. Diana has been instrumental in driving up the number of children we work with and the quality of what we do with them. We are completely indebted to Diana and are so appreciative that she is staying with us as a trustee.

Replacing Diana gave us quite a challenge…After a thorough process last month, in which we interviewed some outstanding candidates, I am delighted to announce that we have appointed Jane Salmonson as our director designate. Jane has had a distinguished career in our sector. She has just stepped down as Chief Executive of Scotland’s International Development Alliance. She previously had senior roles at L’Arche and Mercy Corp. She read PPE at Oxford and has two Masters degrees from Edinburgh focusing on international development and peacebuilding. Moreover, Jane has impressed all of us who met her with her understanding of Firefly, the regions we work in and the stage we are at. We could not be more pleased to be getting her on board. Jane is going to start in the autumn so that she and Diana will have a decent handover period. There will be more information soon on our end of year Gala – an event that will provide a good opportunity to thank Diana and introduce Jane.
