Firefly launched Reel Festivals in 2007, a project which aims to show a different side of areas in conflict and encourage engagement between the arts and international issues. Previous festivals have focused on Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Lebanon. The most recent festival (in May 2011) aimed to be a tri-lateral festival between Scotland, Syria and Lebanon, with a focus on Music, Film and Literature. Due to the high levels of Governmental oppression in Syria we were not able to host events there, however we did feature works by Syrian film-makers, poets and musicians in our Festival, which was held in Beirut and Edinburgh. We are currently working on new films, music and poetry which was created during this festival, in association with the Scottish Poetry Library
