Firefly Volunteer Application Page
Projects in Bosnia
- We are looking for volunteers, of any age, from any country, to come and volunteer in Bosnia for two months this summer, running the activity of their choice in Brcko, and taking part on our annual summer camps in Croatia. If you're interested, phone Ellie on +44 7956 983 885 for more information, and/or download our application form here and email it to us at volunteer @ fireflybosnia.org with the words 'two-month volunteer' as the subject.
- Our samba kids have set up their own samba project! We're always looking for short-term samba maestros to come to Bosnia and help them build their skills and samba philosophy. Email samba @ fireflybosnia.org if you'd like to help.
- If you're looking to work on long-term projects at Firefly's Bosnia youth centres (6 months or longer), download our standard (non-EVS) application form here and email it to us at volunteer @ fireflyinternational.org with the words 'long-term volunteer' as the subject. If you're from anywhere in Europe, and aged between 18 and 30, we may be able to find all your funding through the European Voluntary Service; to apply, download the EVS application form here.
- We still need people to help out at the Firefly summer camps at the end of July 2008. To apply, please go to the summer camps information page.
- We have several volunteer openings in Bosnia each year helping out at Children's Cultural Festivals in February, June, and December each year; you can apply for 2 weeks to 1 month leading up to each festival, helping to prepare an activity or performance in one of the festivals. To find out the dates before you apply, email volunteer @ fireflyinternational.org with the words 'Children's Cultural Festival Volunteer' as the subject.
N.B. Unless you're an EVS volunteer, you'll be asked to raise £275 for every month that you volunteer at Firefly's projects in Bosnia. This covers all your costs apart from food, including accommodation in a private flat, bills, private language lessons, the costs (materials, phone, petrol, space, internet, staff/translation support etc) of running your project, and a contribution towards regular projects such as the festivals or summer camps. We'll help you raise these funds so get in touch if you want to discuss it.
Projects anywhere else:
- Worldwide: EVS (European Voluntary Service) is a European Funding Scheme that will pay all the costs of any European person aged from 18 to 30 who wants to volunteer abroad. EVS pays for your travel, food, accommodation, insurance, and pocket money. You can design your on project, or pick from a list of pre-approved, pre-funded ones. There are currently EVS vacancies, for up to one year, in Lithuania, Spain, Germany, Malta, Liechtenstein, Latvia, France, Slovenia, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy, Russian Federation, Austria, Poland, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. For more information about EVS, have a look at our EVS info page. If you want to apply for any of these projects, email me at EVS @ fireflyinternational.org
- 23rd May 2008: Another UK EVS sending organisation we're in touch with also has pre-approved EVS projects (this means the funding has already been applied for and secured) in Senegal, Finland, Austria, France, and Italy, lasting from 3 weeks to 11 months. The first one starts in June 2008, and the last one starts in October 2008. For more details email us at evs @ fireflyinternational.org and we'll pass on your details.
- London, UK: We're looking for a long-term volunteer to work one day per week at our office in Brixton, London - you'll help to manage volunteer applications for our projects in Bosnia, and help young people from Brixton who want to volunteer abroad for up to a year. Of you have any fundraising experience, that would be an added bonus, but not necessary! To apply, email me at ellie @ fireflyinternational.org - this position is part time and unpaid so probably not suitable for anyone currently not living in London. You'll need to undertake a CRB check for the second position.
- London, UK: We're also looking for a short-term volunteer to help set up a youth music project in Brixton, London. To apply, email me at ellie @ fireflyinternational.org - again, this position is part time and unpaid so probably not suitable for anyone currently not living in London. You'll need to undertake a CRB check for this position.
