Firefly International is extremely happy to report that we have purchased an apartment in Brčko, Bosnia and are in the process of setting it up as the permanent home of Svitac (Firefly Bosnia). The apartment was chosen by staff in Bosnia and they have decided to name it the ‘Ellie Maxwell Youth Centre’ in memory of the Director and founder of Firefly, Ellie Maxwell. None of this would have been possible without the tireless work of Firefly sponsors and supporters, to all of you we give unending thanks!
The apartment has 3 rooms, one to be used as a language and computing salon. It is spacious, with big windows and has access to the balcony, where some of the children are hoping to grow plants. The other big room is going to be used for arts and crafts and music workshops, and is perfect for this. Finally there is a good sized office with kitchen. We are now working on the refurbishment of the apartment into a fully functioning youth centre, watch this space!
